Police said their officers arrived and found the two men wounded from gunfire. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other, with critical wounds, was taken by emergency medical responders to a nearby hospital, police said.
The suspect ran from the scene, and an extensive search by law enforcement led to an arrest without resistance about 5:45 a.m. about a quarter-mile to the south in the 500 block of 1st Avenue S., police said.
The jail log lists the suspect as a 19-year-old man from St. Paul. Charges are pending. The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.
The identities of the victims have not been released. Police have yet to address what might have led to the shooting.
