Have you seen The Holdovers? When my dad requested to go together, I hesitated, since the trailer seemed to give away the whole movie (many trailers do, and it’s boring!), so I was pleasantly surprised when we went to the theater by how rich and full the film was — lots of narrative threads! The story follows a kid stuck at his boarding school over the holidays, along with a cantankerous professor and the head cook, and I loved and believed in all the characters. (Here, the director narrates a scene at a liquor shop, if you’d like to see.)
How cute is my friend Grace’s tree? She topped it with a snapshot of her beloved dog, Cooper. Makes me daydream about what other things we could put on top of a tree: A red beanie? A family photo? Teenager socks?
If you’re in a music mood, we’ve been playing this holiday-ish playlist when people come over. Or, for a Trader Joe’s run or commute home from work, here’s a funny three-minute podcast about two teenage babysitters deciding if they should eat food after the kids are in bed.
Last but not least, I’m excited to bust out my trusty $7 lipstick for holiday parties. (It starts off pink and you can layer to make it red.) And we’re doing an Ask Me Anything soon on Big Salad, so please feel free to ask questions via this google doc, and I’ll do my best to answer! Thank you so much, as always. xo
P.S. More fun things, and what are your top three movies of all time?
