A third woman was shot and transported to a hospital. Her condition is unknown.
According to a press release Sunday morning from Lamar Police Chief Kyle Miller, officers responded at 2 p.m. Saturday to a report of a triple shooting at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Mullen Street.
Officers discovered the three people shot, two females and a male. One of the females and the male were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lamar Police Department placed an alert to area authorities to look out for a vehicle suspected of being used by a single suspect.
Miller stated that a Granada Police Department officer located the vehicle and law enforcement officers from Granada, the Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol and Colorado Parks and Wildlife pursued the suspect after he fled from officers in the vehicle in eastern Prowers County.
Officers from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas, assisting in Colorado, utilized stop sticks in an attempt to immobilize the vehicle. The suspect continued to flee from officers in the vehicle and eventually stopped in a field near Holly.
Miller states in the press release that the suspect exited the vehicle and used a handgun to take his own life. No shots were fired by law enforcement, according to authorities.
There is no ongoing threat to the community at this time, according to the press release.
The Lamar Police Department, with the assistance of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, is investigating this incident. Authorities said updates will be released as they become available.
